Sit down. Be quiet. Listen to me. Do you remember those common commands as a child?

I sure do. The conditioning I acquired growing up going to public school, being one of 25 in a classroom, and having no setting where I was encouraged to just be myself took years of introspection to peel back the layers of what was not mine, to connect back to who I really am. Make no mistake, there is no shade to the teachers or any of the grown-ups that I spent my formative years with, most people are trying their best with what they have. Nonetheless, I eventually matured into an adult that had no understanding of who they were and what made them special. Eventually, I would find my way onto a mat inside a yoga studio and the layer pulling would begin!

The call to be quiet and still in order to listen to myself instead of someone else at the start of class. The power my own breath has to shift my energy completely. The way poses reveal the qualities in my life that need tending too; patience, compassion, resiliency, acceptance. All these facets of practice were brand new to me and they gave me the permission I was desperately seeking to remember who I am. Like many good things in life, a project born from a desire to create something I wish was available to me at a young age, came to light.

Blessed to find a best friend turned business partner that had the same passion, Child’s Pose went from an idea to a real life offering. We created a space for kids to come be themselves. To remember, they are their own greatest teacher. We play, we breathe, we remember together. Yoga is an activity that is non-competitive, it’s individual but it’s something we practice in community, and where we acknowledged celebrate our differences.

Driven by the experiences of our childhoods, in order to make the growing up part of life a little more easeful for the next generation is our “why.” Whether you an adult starting your yoga journey or you have a kiddo that you want to share the magic of yoga with, Child’s Pose is always available to you!
